Willowood at Devon Crest Results — 6/9/2011

Fantastic Meet Devon Crest!  The results are posted below:

Upcoming Dates:

Drag Day – is this Friday, July 15. What is Drag Day you may be asking. Well I’ll tell you. The kids come in whatever they can think of that will make the greatest drag while swimming. We’ve seen prom gowns, suits, even a cow costume. Lots of kids keep it simple, sweats, heavy shorts, long shirts. Whatever they want. They usually start practice in the drag clothes and then finish in their practice suits. It’s really, really hard to swim in a cow costume.
Bon Fire - Sunday July 17 from 6:30 – 10 at Coach Jim’s (address was provided in email). Please note this is for swimmers 12 and over ONLY. Yes this means no younger swimmers and no parent’s trying to sneak in either. 12 and older ‘swimmers’ only. Food for this event is provided by the leftovers from concessions. It’s a great way to get rid of those last 40 hot dogs.
Swim-A-Thon – Wednesday June 20 during each practice. Each year the coaches hold a swim-a-thon to raise money for charity. This year a high school friend of Coach Bree and Coach Jim, Mary Kopitsky, who has been diagnosed with cancer has been chosen to be the recipient of these donations. Swimmers are encouraged to solicit donations for this event. They then come prepared to swim laps to raise those pledges/donations. Checks should be made payable to DCST and noted as Swim-A-Thon. Please see the attached pledge form below:
Family Night – Please mark you calendars for Family Night, July 27th at the pool. More information on this fun event in a future e-mail.

Did everyone see the article on Coach Jim “Juice” Mercurio in Sunday’s Patriot News?  It was an article on Adult Kickball and Dodgeball Leagues.

DCST vs Palmyra Results 6/25/11

For some reason, Palmyra was not able to import our Seed times properly and many heat lanes were switched (e.g. our fastest swimmers were not always in the proper lanes).  The Palmyra Hytek people were awesome, and they ran a great meet.  Sometimes these things happen.  Thanks for your understanding.  Additionally, there was an issue with Exhibition ribbons.  They will be getting in more, and they will mail them to us as soon as possible.  Again, thanks for understanding.

Palmyra Meet Driving Directions
Here is the link for the driving directions to tomorrow’s meet. http://www.palmyrasharks.com/index_files/Directions_to_Pool_Summer.pdf
There are two fairly simple ways to avoid Lingle Avenue. One is to take Route 422 off of 83 South (bearing right a mile or so after the Union Deposit Exit, then following the Hershey signs). 422 becomes the main drag (Chocolate Avenue) through Hershey and then Main Street in Palmyra. The other way is to take Route 743 South off of Route 81 (it’s one exit past the Route 39 exit). Follow 743 South about 7-8 miles until you have to turn right or left (part of the Hershey Country Club golf course will be directly in front of you). Turn left at that point and follow the road to the next traffic light. Then take a slight left onto Route 422, which will become Main Street in Palmyra.
You can use the directions from the website in conjunction with these to get you there.

The street address for the pool is 1122 Park Drive, Palmyra, 17078.

Picture Retake
Retakes for individual swim pictures have been scheduled for Tuesday 6/28, 5 pm at the pool. Additional forms may be available with the folders. We will ask the photographer to bring a few in case you need them.
Caps
Please remember that we would like for every swimmer (even you older boys ) to swim with a Devon Crest cap. Wearing a team cap is helpful to us in so many ways. With 150 kids it helps us identify our kids when getting kids ready for their events. In addition, wearing a DCST cap helps Mr. Matson know which kids to take pictures of, it’s the only way a swimmer can be identified from the water during a race. Most importantly it helps the cheering section know who to cheer for, so if your swimmer has a cap, please encourage them to wear it. If you didn’t order a cap but would like one please see Jeanette Logan. We have a few additional blank DCST caps available for $11.50 each.
Matson Shutterfly Pics
Remember to take a moment to review Mike Matson’s DCST gallery on Shutterfly. The pictures from our TVAC meet are posted there. You can navigate to that site from the devoncrest.wordpress.com website. It really is worth your time to visit the gallery and look at the pictures.
Attendance
Please remember to e-mail me directly with any changes your swimmers have in meet attendance. I will be communicating these changes to the coaches daily.
Palmyra Meet E-mail
Please remember to check your e-mail later this evening for all the information you need for tomorrow morning’s meet. Hopefully to include some better directions :)
Thanks Everyone!

Middletown Invitational Meet (deadline moved up to July 2)

Middletown Invitational – July 12 hosted by Middletown Swim Team

We do understand that the change in the definition for the Novice Meet still excludes many young swimmers, especially those that only participated in LPAC’s non competitive or pre competitive programs but did swim in a meet or invitational. To allow those swimmers a place to compete Coach Bree has volunteered to staff the Middletown Invitational on July 12, 2011.

Here is the meet information and registration forms for the Middletown Invitational.

When: July 12th
For: 10 and Younger Only

The Middletown Invitational is an opportunity for swimmers to compete against their actual age. This meet is especially great for those swimmers that swam competitively during the winter.

The deadline for entries in the Middletown Invitational has been moved up to July 2. Please get your entries to Coach Bree by the end of the FLEBY meet this Saturday.

When you have your forms filled out please make checks payable to DCST. Each event costs $2.50. Swimmers may swim four individual events. Relays will be put together by the Coach Bree if there is enough interest. Please do not pay for relays at this time! Coach Bree will contact you if we she’s able to form relays and payment for that relay ($2.50 per swimmer will be payable at that time). Once you have completed your registration form please hand in your check and form (completed – one per swimmer) to Coach Bree, NOT the coaches box. She will be sending in the entries as she receives them to ensure your child’s best chance to swim before the 200 swimmer limit is reached. If you have any questions ask Coach Bree because she will be attending the invitational.

Attached you will find information from the Middletown Swim team regarding the meet, and the registration form that you will need to complete if swimming. Additional information can also be found at www.middletowndolphins.com

Additional information

Please remember that all DCST families are still required to help with the Novice Meet whether or not your children are swimming. This is our primary fundraiser for the swim team and can only happen with the help of all of our families. Please take your required attendance at our Novice Meet into consideration when deciding whether or not you will be swimming the Middletown Invitational as these events take place on consecutive nights.

We also ask for your patience and understanding as we work through this invitational process. It’s been several years since we’ve participated in an invitational and for most of us, including our coaches, this is not something we have done before. Taking on a task of this size was something we were concerned about doing mid season. However, we really wanted to provide this opportunity to our younger swimmers so we decided to go ahead and dive in (pun intended). We do understand that this does not provide an invitational event for all of our swimmers. As we begin our planning for next year’s season we will look at available invitationals and our swimmers’ interest and consider adding those events to our team calendar.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions and I will do my best to answer or forward onto the appropriate person.

Thanks!
